Mounties pound Western, 47-7

Jackson Northwest beat Western, 47-7, on Friday, denying the Panthers a trip to the playoffs and ending their own season 3-6.

The Mounties started the year 0-3 but won two of their final three games.

Playing the spoiler

The Mounties have never gone undefeated but they have finished three seasons with one loss.

The last time that happened -- in 1974 -- the lone loss came to Western, 21-6.

Just a little piece of history to ponder as the Mounties prepare to play the spoiler this week and keep the Panthers out of the playoffs.

Jackson beats Northwest, 38-20

Jackson Northwest took the opening drive 67 yards in 14 plays for a touchdown.

But after that, the ball game belonged to Jackson High, which scored the next four touchdowns.

The Vikings beat the Mounties 38-20 Friday night at Withington Stadium.

With the win, Jackson High improves to 5-3, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

The Mounties slip to 2-6.

Northwest's season finale will be at home next week against Western.

It could be a huge game for the Panthers. Western needs one more win to qualify for the playoffs and they were losing badly to Ida.

The Mounties could play spoiler next week.

Mounties score late

The Mounties scored late to pull a little closer to Jackson High in the final minutes.

The Vikings lead 38-20.

Jackson scores again: 38-13

With about 4 minutes left in the game, Jackson High has scored again.

The Vikings now lead the Mounties, 38-13.
